Hi all,

Can anybody suggest why I cannot send faxes from my compact presario v500
running windows XP sp2.
According to the Microsoft fax tool there are no modems installed in my
laptop.
However hardware manager shows a Ac97 soft data fax modem with smartcp as
being installed.
Diagnostics for the modem show comport 4 in use.
How can I tell which software / process is using the modem port, making it
unavailable to the fax printer / manager

thanks
Robert Fernando

Hi,
Do you use dial-up for internet connectivity? If so, are you connected
when you are trying to fax? If so, then you'll need to disconnect from the
internet to free up the modem for the fax program.

HTH,
Peter Hogan
