I know you received some responses on this, but I thought I would throw in
my two cents too.  I had a 486 board (a Galaxy III if I remember correctly)
that is still in production today.  From the day I got the board the clock
consistantly lost about two minutes a month.  I have never replaced the
battery, or for that matter done anything other than correct the clock every
other month or so.  It has never caused a problem with the system.  I don't
know why the problem exists, but it never seemed to be an issue.  Hope this
