My copies of XP Pro must be older than yours, because they did not require SP1 during installation. Does it give you the option of skipping the update? If so, it will show up as a critical update when you first go to Windows update. That's how I did SP1 on my 3 installations. Yours may not allow that option. The MS fix is complicated, but I don't think they're kidding.
