There is an excellent solution I used for Windows 3.11 (Netscape 3 with
mail or Opera for w3.11, Trumpet Winsock). For DOS, there are apps (I seen
one guy check his mail on a 286 with 2400bps modem) but I've no experience
with them.

As always, the Google comes to my help :) The magic query is "email dos".
