I have read (as recently as this morning) that WinXP is cranky
about booting and runing from a USB device.
I would reasearch that area of the problem.

I´m trying to install WXPSP2 in an external HDD 3.5", enclosured into a HDD case USB2.0.
The PC I tried are really HP notebooks, NX9010, NX6110.
In the midle of the installation, after copying all the necesary files into the HDD and the system restarts, a blue screen stops it
warning that you should run checkdisk or scan the disk for virusis.
The 3 HDD I have tested are new partitioned and formatted ones(no virusis) and in a desktop pc work OK.
they are 2 maxtor 5400 60 and 40 gb, and one 2.5" Fujitsu, that originally came into the NX6110.
FAT32 and NTFS formats have been tried,
The matter is that Im not sure this (running XP OS on an external HDD) is right.
