I just got a new A7N8X Deluxe motherboard from NewEgg. I installed a
brand-new AMD Athalon XP 2400+ CPU (2.0 GHz) with the AMD fan and heatsink
and two 256M Crucial sticks (inserted into slots 1 & 3). I verified that
the CPU_FSB jumper was in the "FSB333/266" position. I'm running a new 450W
power supply. When I tried booting the system, I got the "System failed due
to CPU over-clocking" message during POST. When I checked the Advanced
Chipset Features, here were the pertinent settings:

  CPU External Frequency [100]
  CPU Frequency Multiple Setting [Auto]
  CPU Frequency Multiple [7.0x/15.0x]

First I changed the CPU External Freq to 166. I still got the POST message,
although not consistently. So I changed the setting to 133. Now it seems to
boot OK when I tried it 5-6 times last evening. One last weird thing:
There's a screen that pops up during reboot sometimes that shows the CPU
type and Memory. I observed twice last evening that it listed the CPU as an
1800+ (!??) I am not attempting nor interested in over-clocking.

So my questions:
  1) with a 2400+ processor, isn't "166 CPU External Frequency" the correct
setting?
  2) why does the board think I have an 1800+ CPU loaded?
  3) in general, what gives??

Thanks!
