What you want to do should be fairly easy. If the Windows 98 machine is
presently USB capable (has a USB connector) it should be as simple as
plugging it in. If not, you will need a USB 2.0 PCI card installed. You
should find them at any computer store or places like BestBuy, Circuit City,
CompUSA and even Wal-Mart carries them. Expect to pay in the neighborhood of
$30.00 retail.

He is a place online that has a six port (two internal) card for $11.99 +
shipping. I have several of them and they are an excellent buy.

Install the card and the included driver for Windows 98 and you're ready, no
changes or upgrading of the operating system is necessary. For your info,

I own a Asus CRW-5232AS-u external cd writer which is compatable with

98se, 2k and xp. I would like to connect it to a computer at work which uses
windows 98 4.10.2222a. Would the writer be compatible and if not, can I only

I am hesitant to make major changes to the os because we use a dos based
hotel program which has, in the past, tended to crash when you sneeze! The
program
was developed by a couple of local physisists who recently produced a
windows
version, but being a small buisness having a couple of slow years, owner is
slow to be convinced of the need of the expence of upgrading. Basically need
the writer to back up audit reports, receipt history, etc. and we,re going
through a huge number of floppies which are slow to write.
