Thank you for the help.
What I found is that there is a new variable in the BIOS upgrade: Modem is
on interrupt <x>.
When I selected interrupt 3, the modem (finally) started working. I knew
about com 3 & 4 sharing interrupts, but remembered that there was some
"trick" that had been played in the past to "fool" the computer. Whatever
that "trick" was, it seems that the new BIOS fixes the need for "fooling"
the computer to allow com4 to work. Oh well, after all is said and done, I
now have everything working as expected.
