I solved this  and a few other things. by installing Service Pack 6. After
the patch the CD drive appeared.

rks great. This was working fine in all operating systems however once I
installed SERVER the new install does not see the CD drive. It sees and has
installed the Sound blaster controller on IRQ 11 using NT drivers....just
like in workstation only this time without a device. The Soundblaster
drivers are installed. ...Everything is working correctly..but no Sanyo CD ROM.

It can not be the hardware because it works fine when I boot the other OS's
and was working OK in NTWKS a few hours ago. It must be a configuration
problem but what ? There are ample IRQs available and I don't see any
conflicts in NT Diagnostics.
