Greetings-

Since I still have suggestions filtering in on the "ping error" posting
that I sent to the list last week, I decided that it might be nice to post
the solution:

I reseated the NIC.

The machine had been moved across the country in a rental van and it
finally dawned on me that things may have moved around a wee bit.

Anyway, the solution reaffirms that most basic of troubleshooting axioms-
check the simple stuff first. Many failures are mechanical in nature.
