Stephen,
You can use a cd-r/w in that machine, but be prepared for it to be slow, and
possibly produce a lot of coasters.  I have a CD-R in a P166 at work, but
that machine runs NT4, and has a SCSI CD-R. You more than likely won't get
very good performance out of an IDE drive.
As far as LiteOn drives, stay FAR away. They are cheap for a reason. I had a
LiteOn CD-ROM drive, and within a year, the disc drawer would no longer
open. The same thing happened to a co-worker. They're junk. Spend the extra
$$$ and get a decent one.
