From your description, you have the classic symptoms of a dead battery and will have to obtain a replacement. If a rechargeable battery will not hold a charge, it's on it's way out. If you leave it (As you have done.) for several months, it will definitely finish it off. The charging light shows that the charger is trying to charge it but the other lights cannot illuminate as the battery voltage remains too low.
