Sue,
    I did the same thing, put a cdrw in where the dvd was.  Did not even
recognize the dvd.  I ended up slaving the dvd to the hardrive on primary
ide and set the cdrw as a master on the secondary ide and everything is just
fine.  Try this and see if it works
