I'd open the case and check the cables... (Loose, etc...)
If wired a certain way, it would be possible to loose both
drives at the same time...

It might even be the controller went bad.
I might disconnect the "extra" 80G with my backup on it,
make sure the jumpers were THEN STILL correct on the single
remaining drive, and proceed slowly...

Never give up on a drive (or the contents) until you test it
in another machine that will support it...
