Yes it does work with cdr media. Your recorder must be packet writer
compatible. See below for the word from adaptec about Direct CD. Your
problem might be writing too much data to the cdr. Seems that the method
used has quite high overhead, you only can get about 550 megs on a cdrw and
over 600 on a cdr. Adaptec says to leave at least 10 megs free to close a
disk.

DirectCD[NL][NL]CD Recording - Now As Easy as Using a Disk Drive! [PARA]

You know how easy it is to save files to your hard disk or floppy disk. Now,
Adaptec introduces DirectCD, the software that makes your CD recorder as
easy to use as a disk drive. You can drag and drop files, rename files,
delete files, and create new directories right on your CD-R disc. You can
even save files directly from your word processing software, spreadsheet, or
other application directly to CD-R. [PARA]The Fast (and Cheapest) Way to
Store Your Data Files [PARA]DirectCD software from Adaptec allows you to
copy your data to CD fast, faster than copying the same files to floppy disk
or other storage devices. [PARA]With DirectCD software, you can save your

to inexpensive CD-R media. [PARA]Copy Hundreds of Files - or Just One
[PARA]Whether you're copying your entire hard disk, or just one file,
DirectCD makes your job easier. DirectCD software takes advantage of your CD
recorder's ability to write small packets of data to the CD, for fast
uninterrupted data flow and optimum use of disc space. [PARA]The Perfect
Desktop Storage Device [PARA]With the ever increasing demand for storage
space, caused by massive Internet downloads, home publishing, and multimedia
applications, a CD-R drive with DirectCD becomes the perfect desktop storage
device. [PARA][PARA]

Fixed-length packets (random erase) No CD-RW media* No
* If you have a CD-RW disc originally formatted with DirectCD 1.0x, DirectCD
2.0x will continue to write to that disc in variable-length packets, so you
cannot randomly erase and recover space on it. In order to prepare the disc
for random erase, you need to erase it completely and reformat it with
DirectCD 2.0.

Thanks, but...

I have been working with DirectCD since I bought my HP-Writer.
I have formated hundreds of CDs (CD-R).
