Gordon,

Bingo!

My problem was not exactly as you described, but your solution was right on
the money. I managed to find this check mark under my VPN TCP/IP properties
and when I unchecked it - everything worked fine.

It also solved a second problem that I had - namely a second computer
(wirelessly) networked to mine via ICS also now can access the Internet when
my PPTP VPN is active.

Of all the responses I got on two forums, yours was the one that did the
trick.

Many kind thanks.

Michael

Then try the following

ON My Network Places (Right click go to properties)

On Dial-up Connection (Right click go to properties)

Network TAB

Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) ... Properties

ADVANCED

Take the check mark out of
Use default gateway on remote network

Now access to both VPN and the rest of the Internet work fine.
