I'm jumping into the wayback machine here so you'll need to get better info
but ...

On the XTs the BIOS brought up the hardware (POST tests, etc) then did a
call to a specific location on the drive.  Your program would need to be
able grab that call and then handle all of the I/O requirements (Keyboard,
video, HD, ...)

Is it possible?  Yes
Is it worthwhile? Maybe

Might want to just use MSDOS 6.22 without windows and then run the program
from autoexec.bat.

If memory serves, I believe the MSDOS was originally written in C.

Does any know whether it would be possible to run a PC from a C program
(i.e. with no operating system). Would I need to convert the program into
object code so the computer can understand it.
How would get the computer to recognise the program at start up, It would
be a very simple program.
