The _really_ short version is yes.
When I have only the power cable and the data cable hooked up,
WMP will still allow me to hear sound from a plain Audio CD.
Note that using the Windows CDPlayer under the same conditions,
(if installed), will produce "no" sound.         Rick Glazier
