as far as I know "A" drive is normally the floppy drive and any problem with it should be indicated by an error msg during post (press f1? to continue or del? to enter set up)

shouldn't this be GB? if so again IMHO, quite a big increase and perhaps the mobo does not support such a large drive?

Yes I meant GB not MB I went with the 160 because it was only $39.00 after rebate. ME doesn't support such a large drive but Westren Digital has software that allows the drive to work. Without the software only 80 GB would work. I don't see the connection between the hard drive and the A drive and why it should cause the problem.
