Response to Bill Cohane: Good observation, Bill, but in my last post I did
mention prior situations where that was the case. In this instance, the
keyboard was not responsive. It is a good idea for others to know how to
shut down the computer using keystrokes in situations where the screen is
frozen or disabled. I learned to do this when I first started using a DVI
interface for my monitor and had video drivers! Doing such a shutdown can
sometimes save your work.

To Paul Hachmeyer: I did have a problem with the RAM when I first got it and
did have to swap them to make things work properly. For other users'
information, you need to put the slowest RAM into the slot that the
motherboard uses to set its RAM speed. Usually this is the first slot. If
you don't do this, the motherboard may run the RAM at a timing that is too
fast for the other RAM stick.

Update to Mark: I just downloaded the latest video drivers (dated June 22,
2005 - how is that for new!!) and installed them. Will watch to see if any
lockups still occur. Will post if that fixes the problem.

I will note that I did run RAM tests initially and all reported ok. I just
don't always trust RAM tests!

Thanks to all for the input.

Peter
