Thanks for your reply. I use various USB devices. But if a socket is
damaged, wouldn't the USB error message stay on all the time?

Hi,

I had this problem after I  installed an external usb hard drive to a
computer. It turned out that I had the  drive set on the wrong pins. In
your case pins could be damaged in the usb device or  socket on the
computer.
