Hi Alan,

To run the equivalent of chkdsk in Windows, bring up "My Computer". Find 
the drive you want to check, right click on it and select "Properties". 
Under the "Tools" tab, click on "Check Now..." and follow the instructions.

Because Windows is a multi-tasking OS, if you have any programs running 
that access the disk while the check is going on, it might disrupt the 
disk check and make it start over and over. Before running it, disable 
(close) all running programs (including those running in your tray).
