Sorry, XP doesn't allow real mode programs (16 bit apps that require
direct access to hardware resources) Nothing you can do except build a
dos machine or dos based, like win9x. XP is based on NT technology which
does not allow 16 bit applications to run, for stability.

By some chance you aren't running XP Pro 64 bit version
(instead of the 32 bit version) are you?  It is being sold
but won't run 16 bit applications.
