I have my UPS's and PC's connected in the following manner:

[Outlet] -> [Surge Protector] -> [UPS] -> [Surge Protector] ->
[Computer Equipment]

Both surge protectors and the UPS are from APC. I talked to one of their reps and he told me that this was a good configuration as long as I used only ONE of the UPS outlets for surge protector that I had the computer equipment plugged in. The caution is not to draw more power from the UPS that it is rated for. Since all three have 15 AMP circuit breakers I'm OK. If I were to use another outlet on the UPS I run the risk of trying to pull too much power from it. That WILL fry it if the circuit breakers on the UPS don't cut out.

I have the UPS pluged into a surge protector for easy testing of the UPS. You are not supposed to just "pull the plug" on the UPS to test it. This way I can kill the power and keep the ground intact - just like a real power outage.

Are you sure? I did that and the UPS burned. Actually caught fire. I
called and the company said you should not run it that way.
