Doug,
I run the same thing on my computer at my office except that I am
running
win95os2. When my hdd took a dump I replaced it, reloaded the
operating system,
all my software including BUexec then I selectively restored, from my
tape
drive, all the necessary data base files needed to get my software
operating as
it was before the disaster. I did have a recovery disk and did recover
my
system from the tape at first but, the programs including the
operating system
were corrupt and did not run properly. One of my employees has a
brother who
teaches at a local college part time and is the MIS expert for a large
nationwide food producer. He manages all their systems throughout the
U.S. He
told me never to recover your operating system or other programs from
a tape,
just your data, tapes don't always copy programs with enough quality
and
problems are more likely to occur. I tend to believe him because of my
own
experience. So, I guess what I'm getting to is that the seagate
recovery disk was not needed to do it the way I ended up doing the
reinstall then recover data thing.
