I'm wondering if anyone might have any suggestions for me with my daughters computer which I built some time ago now and has been fine in general.
It has a p2 cpu, with a 10g hard drive running Me upgraded from win98.
The problem is this: It was working fine and in my sons room, used on a daily basis and never caused any problems.
I built my son a new computer, and decided to give this one to my daughter. I moved it from one room to another, plugged it back in and it was fine for a while until the C drive stopped responding, and then seemed to die.
Then, for some reason, when I restarted the system, it wouldn't recognise that there was a hard drive present.
After alot of fiddling, I changed the power supply cables around, and it started up again. It was fine again for a few weeks, until I moved it again, and the same thing has happened once more, no C drive.
I've tried changing all of the power cables around, but still nothing.
I've changed the ribbon, just in case there was a fault somewhere.
I've tried entering the information manually in the bios.
I've tried just about everything I can think of, even a different hard drive, but still nothing.
The cdrom registers every time, no matter which power cable I use for it, and on both IDE 1 and IDE 2, depending  on which one its plugged into.
Any ideas anyone? This really is driving me insane now, as I had it all set up for my daughter to access the internet at her own home.
One thing I have noticed of late is that on start up it sometimes takes ages now for the memory test, whereas it used to be quite fast.
Would it be a memory problem? I don't really want to buy any more RAM  unless there is a good chance it could be that.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I would like to keep this computer running for as long as is possible, and upgrade the cpu to p3 in the near future.
