Hello PCBUILDers.

I used to subscribe to this list a few years ago, and then quit teaching,
so I unsubscribed. Now I need some help, and I know this is the place!

Here is the situation:

Maxtor 6GB drive is drive 0
IBM 12GB drive is drive 1
Pent. II 300Mhz on BX (I think) motherboard

System builder installed the 12GB (and maybe the 6GB) drive with EZ-bios,
though I have no idea why. No EZ-bios disk available.

Wanted to fdisk and format the IBM drive and make it the boot drive, make
the Maxtor the slave, and copy necessary files from it after the OS install.

Downloaded Western Digital's drive overlay software (forgotten the name)
and removed EZ-bios from the IBM drive. In the process, it gave the option
to "upgrade" EZ-bios or abort. I upgraded. I am absolutely sure I chose
the IBM drive for this process (WD's software called it drive 2).

Unplugged the Maxtor drive, made the IBM the master, and installed Win ME.

Well, when putting the Maxtor back in as slave, I can't access it. Fdisk
sees a "non-DOS" partition.

So, is there a way I can get the data back? Partition Magic? Some silver
bullet via linux?

Thanks for any help!
