  Well, in fact, this is an issue. The game developers are already
using the 3D hardware to its full extent even in the games that you'd
thought they never could. Actually, almost any kind of game will
benefit from 3D accelerator, naming some:
  Simulators. No questions here.
  Action. Even if it's a 2D scroller, the designers may add some
flame effects or other stuff present on 3D card [Shadow Warrior
3dFX patch, for example]
  Strategy. The trend is to present anything as 3d objects....
  Adventure/Quest. Also using 3d environment now.

  This list now covers all styles of games, except maybe handheld
games simulator. But don't panic. I have a mainstream ATI Rage IIc
8Mb, and it's doing just fine.
