I have a 5 year old gateway p5-200 I'm trying to prep as a giveaway. The 200 chip wouldn't support the inexpensive internal winmodems, they all seem to require mmx, preferably with a 233 or 266 chip.
I replaced the chip with a 166 w/mmx, modem now works fine but the pc booted very slowly - about 2 minutes. Then I slowed the host bus speed via jumper from 66 to 60, boot time went from about 2 minutes set at 66 to 15 seconds with setting at 60.
At boot, cpu speed now shows 150 instead of 166. I can't locate any jumpers to set the motherboard for a different chip. What else can I do?
