try to run windows update first, there is a XP update (fix) that address XP
search problems.  There are also many fixes you need to install (eg.
Recovered from error update, IDE update, CD writing update, DVD playback
...), at this moment, XP is extremely buggy. So, you have to stay with MS
updated all the time to avoid some very basic function problems.
