It would be impossible to answer your question without knowing something about your 7 year old computer like the operating system (i.e. Win 95, 98, 98SE, Me, 2000, XP, linux, or whatever), what CPU, memory, drives, and perhaps what you are doing when it freezes. Otherwise I'd say that your computer is failing because it is 7 years old. A 1996 computer is reaching the end of its life cycle, and altho it may be saveable, the question then becomes "is it worth it?" YOu need to provide more info.
