Many times it is a bad connection in the monitor cable.
A single pin in the monitor plug can carry a certain color signal
I know cause I've seen pins broken off in the plug and the monitor will not
have
that color (red for example).
unplug the cable and plug it back in making sure the thumbscrews are tight.
Check to make sure no pins are bent and not making contact.
You can also try carefully jiggling the cable to see if the problem is a
short
in the cable.
