This is just speculation, but it seems more likely to me that you could
be having an intermittent short in one of the yoke coils (just a few turns).
Look for signs of the shorted turns heating.  It may be that all you need is
a good soaking with an insulating varnish in the right area.

In any event, I trust you are familiar with all the potentially LETHAL
hazards of do-it-yourself monitor repairs.  I say this for the benefit
of newcomers.
