I just bought my daughter a Visioneer PaperPort 6100 which hooks up to a
parallel port, but takes a serial address. Doesn't show up in device mangler
as a conflict, but on boot up you get a message -conflict i/o ports 02f8 or
whatever com 2 was using. Locked up the modem. In their readme files, they
say that it may take up a serial irq and cause modems or mice to freeze.
Since she had a ps/2 mouse, I moved the modem to com 1 and got it working,
but still haven't got scanner to work again. But I too have not seen one
with a serial plug.
