That Zoom Modem with the Lucent Chip, is a WinModem, and therefore does not have
the Hardware Comport. One of the drawbacks of using a softmodem. I am not sure
about BeOS, but I would think it is the same as for Linux. A Winmodem requires
using MS Windows to make use of the software Comport. You can double check the
BeOS Website, but you will probably need to replace the modem with one that is
not Winmodem based. You can usually have good luck with most external modems.
