Claudia, while I like the anti-virus suggestion, it could be as
simple as the A drive is part of the path!  Check autoexec.bat
to see if a PATH statement exists and make sure A is not in
it.  Also, anything running in the tray or startup folder, or a
frequently used program, may have a default set to A.  I had
a user in my office that had your problem any time he had been
using Quicken Accounting. Any diskette would work because
his data was on C but Quicken insisted on grinding A every time
data was accessed until I cleaned up his settings.
