Thanks David, that did help. The fact you wouldn't normally have to
 "do something" to swap between Ethernet and wireless 
apart from disable the wireless made me think something
 was odd with my Fujitsu. 

I did a "restore" to a date prior to the Ethernet use and the 
wireless was back again. I then made sure I had disabled wireless
 and went back onto the Ethernet and then back onto wireless 
and everything worked as it should.

This implies the Fujitsu can't "handle" a wireless and
 ethernet internet connection at the same time - which seems reasonable. 
However I don't think it should require a "restore" if inadvertently 
the Ethernet cable was connected whilst the wireless was enabled. 

Any idea what happens with other computers if the this is done?
