Hi Diane
Try using Nero software or something like it. Packet writing software
may not have installed the correct drivers to recognize the unit as
cdrw.

But you say you have burned before, which makes me wonder if you have
lost the drivers somehow.

Remove your cd burning software and reinstall it.

If the tray ejects and loads cd's then it is doubtful you have anything
stuck in it.
Does it play cd's well? Try playing a music cd, something that will
take 10 or 15 minutes.
If that does not work, and it is recognized in bios, then remove it and
try it in another computer to be sure it is bad before chunking it.

Hello,

I have a PLEXTOR CD-R PX-W1210A [CD-ROM drive]
that doesn't work.

I put a cd in the slot, but it makes a sound similar to
what you hear when you play a 45 at 33rpm (sloooow), only in
short "bursts". I know the disk is good because it plays
in the other cd drive. The yellow indicator on the front of the
drive slot flashes twice, then repeats as long as there's a disk
in it. Previously, I've used it as both a writable and readable drive.

Can someone please help me fix this? Is it possible there's
another disk jammed in there?

According to Device Manager, Review devices by Type, "this device
is working properly", but it sure doesn't seem like it to me. Win98se.

Thanks tons,
Diane
