I have a unit running Windows 2000 pro SP2. Returning a registry
file failure error. Cannot load hive "file". System
root/system32/configsoftware or its log or alternative. It is corrupt,
absence or not writeable. It will constantly reboot after the error.
I have tried every option available from F8 safe mode ETC. None
work, cannot get to command prompt. Windows startup disk has not
worked yet. I am going to try a emergency repair disk. I cannot find
the original, but I will make one from another unit with same spec?
The maxtor hard drive shows up in BIOS. The Maxtor drive passed
the installation and quick test. It has hung up twice after about 1/2
thru the long test to recertify.

If needed does WIN 2k let me reinstall onto itself? I would like to
recover some none backup data from this drive. Please give me as
many options I may have. If I could get in and backup the
documents directory and test the backup files. I would then reformat
the drive and clean install WIN 2K.

What that registry restore command from DOS? If I could get to
command prompt and restore one of the previous. I think I used it
on a WIn 98 SE unit. Does it work with Win 2K?

From Windows Startup disk it also keep asking for the admin
password. I don't believe it had one set. Any way around that?

Thanks in Advance
