Brian,  I would recommend checking with Your Cable co. before You went out and bought a cable modem. When we went cable modem, our ISP gave us a surfboard  sb3100 with software pre-loaded for the configuration they use. Unless their price is out-a-sight, I'd go with them for simplicity sake.
