Hi

If I had to guess, I would say that as long as you used an adapter that
allowed for change of voltages for the s370 chip then you should be okay.
Some adapters do and some do not.  You would proably be better using a
CELERON than a P3 as the Celeron were internally mulitplier clocked rather
than relying on the clock multiplier of the main board.  The Bios will
probably be your real limiting factor.  It would be best to flash update to
the latest available.

I ran a Biostar BX board with a socket adapter and a celeron 850 with no
problems for over 1 year.
I did flash the bios, and it did take me 3 different adapters to find one
that worked (voltage issue).  The board did go to a multilpier of 8 on the
100mhz bus.  I don't know what your gateway will allow you to go to.
