System hangs at odd times

Hello all.  I have a self-build system.  MSI KT4 Ultra with an AMD 2200+.
MS win98SE is the operating system.

At times, the screen will suddenly go blank and I will get no response from
the computer what-so-ever.  Last time it happened was when I tried to run a
DVD movie.  I checked the system and found that the video (geforce4 ti4200)
and the built-in sound 5.1 share the same IRQ.  Could that be the problem?

What else might cause the problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
