The first question to ask yourself in this situation is, what changed with
the computer in the last few days? have you installed any new programs? It
sounds as if the cdrom driver is no longer being called from the config.sys
or perhaps mscdex.exe in autoexec.bat. Another question is, what os are you
using? win 95? Win 95 will disable real mode cdrom device drivers in favor
of the virtual mode drivers, which sometimes causes the cdrom to stop being
recognized.
