First of all, it would be helpful to habe the exact model numbers of your
various pieces of wireless equipment.

There are two major standards for 54 Mbps wireless operation -- 802.11a in
the 5 GHz band and 802.11g in the 2.4 GHz band. Even though they use the
same *maximum* bit rate, they won't talk to each other...

Within the 802.11g market, there are a variety of extensions, all
promising better range or speed, or both. Most will only deliver on those
promises if the same feature from the same manufacturer is present on at
least two of the connecting pieces....

There is a nice piece of freeware out there called NetStumbler, which can
show information about other nearby wireless devices. It won't actually go
sofar as to listen in on their conversations, but it tells me that about 15
of my close neighbors have their own wireless networks -- sometimes that
explains why I have trouble connecting.

It's not clear from your message how your existing "wireless network
setup" is configured, and even whether it is working for other devices. It
is possible that you've made configuration choices there that are preventing
the office computer from connecting successfully.
