I am assuming that you are using a cable connection, not DSL, since you are using a Motorola modem. Are you using a router or a firewall? If so, connect the PC directly to the modem. Disable the firewall. Is your IP valid?
Find it in any OS by clicking Start- Run, type in "cmd" click OK. Opens a DOS window, where you type "ipconfig" hit enter. Also try deleting cache and cookies in Internet Options. Also try running a spyware/adware scan. I work in Tech Support for DSL, and this is 80% or more of my calls. Also, have you tried connecting another PC to the modem? If so, does it connect? if yes...see above. If no, it sounds like a modem issue, call your ISP. If you use either Windows ME or XP, you can do a system restore:
click Start, All Programs (Programs in ME), Accessories, System Tools, System Restore, choose option restore my comp to earlier time. click OK, choose a date (in bold) that corresponds to the last time you were connected, or earlier. You can do a restore in Win98 too, by clicking Start, Shut Down, Restart in MS-DOS, click OK. at the DOS prompt type "scanreg /restore" Hit Enter, Choose a date from the list by using keyboard arrows, then hit Enter. Please note the space between the "g" and the slash mark. All items in quotes should of course be typed minus the quotation marks.
