If you really have no idea what to pick you should peruse
http://distrowatch.com/ to see how various distros fare in popularity based
on page hits on that site. It has a whole lot of other useful shoppin info too.

You don't provide any info on why you want Linux or what you plan to do with
it, so the only feedback you can expect here is what people who see your post
here use who bother to reply.

I use multiple Linux versions on multiple machines. My most used (by far) are
openSUSE releases, with 2nd place going to Mageia, 3rd to Fedora, 4th to
Knoppix, and 5th to *buntu/Mint/Debian releases.

I use DOS directly very little any more, but do use it *continuously* via
OS/2 aka eComStation to do my (ancient Borland) DB work.
