To Ashdown:

I was a TV repairman for many years in the New York, New Jersey area. I
degaussed many color sets, even before they had built in degaussers in the
following manner. I wrapped a heavy cloth arounf the tip of my instant electric
soldering gun made by Weller/Excelite. I held the trigger keeping it on as I moved
the Soldering gun all over the fron of the screen. This was done quickly. Then
moving at least three to four feet away I released the trigger. The AC
current caused the degaussing.
