Hi, for purposes of backing up/ transferring files , could you link a laptop to a desktop via a usb cable?  Would it just be "new hardware detected" or do you have to do something with commands or such?  Would it be ok if one was Vista and one was XP?  I guess I'm viewing the laptop as an external drive.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
