I have a NEC Model Ready 9670 with 200MHZ Pentium; 16 MB EDO RAM. I ordered
an additional 16MB of memory from PNY Technologies. When I installed the memory
Windows 95 showed 24 MB installed instead of 32 MB. I removed original memory
from banks 0 & 1 and put new memory in their place. 16 MB showed up so I presume
the new memory is good. I put the old memory in banks 2 & 3 and only 16 MB
showed up. I put old memory back into its original place and put the new memory
in banks 2 & 3 again and it showed 24 MB. PNY technicians said it was the mother
board. I took it to a factory authorized NEC technician who installed "his"
additional memory and it showed 32 MB. He said the new memory I got may be
incompatible with the old. PNY Technician disputed this and said it is a
problem with the computer. Now I am caught in a loop between 2 technicians and
need some help. The computer is still under warranty but I incurred a labor
charge because nothing was wrong (supposedly) with the
computer. PNY says nothing is wrong with the memory although
they have agreed to give me a replacement.
The memory original to the computer has 8 chips on each side of
the simm with the following written on each chip:
                                      HY514404A
                                      LJ-60F 50Z
                                      97288 Malaysia
On the other side the numbers on the chips are slightly
different:
                                      HY514404A
                                      LJ-60F 08Z
                                      9726B Malaysia
The PNY chips look different. There are only 2 chips on each side of the simm:
                                      Siemens
                                      HYB5118165BSJ-60
                                      Germany G 9736
Any ideas to help would be most appreicated.

Thanks in advance,

Dominic Marino
