There are a number of programs that can cause this, and they are listed
in this thread:
http://help.lockergnome.com/windows/CHKDSK-run--ftopict537472.html
They also discuss a Safe Mde method that may work.

Subject: [PCBUILD] Vista chkdisk

I have an HP Pavilion Enertainment PC laptop running Vista. It is
telling
me that a file in my Windows Mail is corrupt and to run chkdisk. When I
try
to run it, the message comes says (on restart) that the chkdisk has been

scheduled and it is strongly recommended that I let it run. The next
line
says it has been cancelled and is done.

How do I get it to run a chkdisk?

Pam
